BUFDG Technical Group Information and Guidelines

BUFDG Technical Group Information and Guidelines as Word document.

The role of the Technical Group

A group of technical advisers has now been established in order to consider proposed changes to TRAC Guidance. The requirement for, and procedures relating to this group are detailed below.

Issues arising during the implementation of TRAC

The BUFDG Costing and Pricing Group have the remit to consider issues that are arising during TRAC implementation, and to make arrangements to resolve these where appropriate. (See http://www.hefce.ac.uk/finance/costing/ for a copy of the Group's terms of reference and membership.)

These issues include all aspects of TRAC implementation:

The types of issues that might be arising might include:

A formal procedure has now been set up by the Group to ensure that issues can be considered and dealt with in a timely fashion.

Firstly, all recipients of this note (or other interested parties) are asked to send through notes of any issues that they wish the Group to consider. These issues should be sent to Suzanne Merrington, the Group's administrator, at smerring@miscorp.ed.ac.uk copied to Melanie Burdett at director@jmc1.org Could we ask for current issues to be sent through no later than 25 February 2006.

The issues will then be sorted for consideration by a small group of technical advisers (Melanie Burdett is acting as convenor for the technical advisers). The advisers will make suggestions to the BUFDG Group on how each set of issues should be taken forward.

The BUFDG Group continues to encourage all HEIs to use the Help Desk facilities that are available at the Funding Councils (see http://www.hefce.ac.uk/finance/costing/ ). Please note that those sending issues through to the BUFDG Group (via Suzanne and Melanie) will not receive an answer directly - neither Suzanne nor Melanie will be operating a Help Desk facility.

A list of all issues that have been raised will be posted on the JCPSG website by the end of April. This will be accompanied by a note describing how they are likely to be dealt with by the BUFDG Group, or others. This will be regularly updated.

A second review point, to consider any issues that emerge during Spring/early Summer 2006, is likely to be the end of July, but you will be notified separately of this.

Please note that the Group wishes to ensure that development of the TRAC Guidance is kept to a minimum at this stage of implementation, but does understand that there are likely to be some areas where the need for more work would be helpful now. The Group will also not wish to take on a whole raft of new initiatives, and there are several already being taken forward (see Table 2 of document 'TRAC key dates' October 2005) and will need to focus on those that will offer the most value to the sector or to its sponsors.

If you have any queries on this note, please contact Suzanne at smerring@miscorp.ed.ac.uk or on 0131 651 4292. Otherwise, we welcome your sending through any suggestions or issues that you consider need addressing nationally during TRAC implementation.
